His legacy

Arsenio Vivanco Neira

1927 – 2014

Arsenio Vivanco Neira was an entrepreneur, lawyer and politician.

Born in 1927 in Loja, a small and remote Ecuadorian city, he was always ahead of his time.

As a young man, he founded one of Ecuador’s first department stores and stocked it with imported goods, something unprecedented at the time. His innovative spirit led to success in business.

He later earned a law degree, driven by a strong sense of fairness and justice. A natural leader and statesman, he served his country as a minister, congressman, senator, cabinet member and vice-presidential candidate. He was a compassionate person guided by high moral standards and unwavering values, always committed to helping others.

In the 1940s, he led an effort to change Ecuadorian law and secure women’s right to higher education.
